Master Craftsman

With over 47 years of combined experience, Ian has built a reputation for exceptional craftsmanship, blending traditional skills with contemporary design.

Ian was born in 1962 at Townlands Hospital in Henley-on-Thames and grew up on the McAlpine Estate. He began his apprenticeship in 1978 and, by 1982, had established his own business.

His education began at Hambleden Primary School, followed by Great Marlow School, Reading Technical College, and Oxford Brookes University. Ian later returned to Reading Technical College as a lecturer, teaching design and sharing his expertise with the next generation. Ian’s qualifications include; City & Guilds Advance, IOC, TEC.

Outside of his professional life, Ian has a rich history in rowing. A former oarsman, he competed successfully at both domestic and international regattas. He later served as Chief Rowing Coach for eight years and as Captain of Henley Rowing Club for five years. Among his most notable achievements was leading the club to victory in the Thames Challenge Cup in 2005—their first open win at the prestigious Henley Royal Regatta.

Ian’s clients include some of the most respected names in sport, business, and the arts. He crafted a medal case for Sir Steve Redgrave, famously presented on This Is Your Life, and has also worked with Sir Matthew Pinsent, Björn Ulvaeus of ABBA, the Dorchester Hotel, Coutts Bank, and Asprey’s Jewellers.

His portfolio covers a wide spectrum of work, from detailed scaled drawings and bespoke studies to fine furniture, joinery, and full refurbishments. Ian creates desks, bookcases, alcove units, wall panelling, staircases, and specialist garden furniture, as well as bathrooms and kitchens. His services also extend to antique restoration, French polishing, Machining and matching profiles & mouldings, project management, and property care—organising the very best local tradesmen to ensure quality at every stage.
